Working on the Damascus

Started working on the handles for the Damascus knife today- rough -shaping /sanding of the Ebony
Still a bit rough-no where near done yet. And sort of trying to decide exactly what contour I want these handles to have..so will pause for now, and think it over some.

Brian's Sheath Pt II.

Almost done- bit of fine-tuning, and she's all set..

Some better pics of the Muj-Slayer.

Had a bit of sunshine for a while- so re-took a couple pics with the better lighting.

Brian's Sheath

Started on this one today.

Rough idea how she'll look when finished, before we dye it..

1st coat of dye is on, waiting for the water-proofing to dry up now, then I'll begin stitching her up- should have her done by tonight. :)

Completed sheath for the Slayer

Dyed and stitched.. forgive the pics- horrid lighting today, almost no Sun..

A sheath for the -Slayer..

With the handles now mounted, and only minor sanding/shaping left to do on them, I begin working on a sheath for this beast.

now, a quick break for lunch, and I'll begin to dye it...

Mounting the Cherry handles

Getting the handles mounted up..

now, for the other side..

the epoxy should be dry in a couple hours, then tomorrow I'll begin the final sanding/shaping to trim the excess, another coat of Tung, and back under the buffer she goes..

Pugio Maximus Sword coming soon!

Just completed contact and negotiations with a blacksmith about the possibility of a short-sword version of my Modern Pugio blade!

The price he quoted was more than reasonable, and his other works, which I have seen, are of outstanding quality and workmanship.

The specs I provided him for this are an 18" blade length, with a 5-6" full, straight tang, in D2 tool steel with a satin finish. It will be several weeks before I can secure this piece, but as soon as I do.. you can believe it will be posted here in every glorious detail of it's build.

Black Cherry oiled- second coats

1st coats cured nicely, now for the second coats.
This coat I'll let cure overnight and into the day tomorrow, before continuing..

Meantime, work begins on the Quarter-Sawn version of Black Cherry for one of the Pugios.. for giggles, I ran a couple passes of the buffing pad to see what the grain would look like on these..

Black Cherry oiled

Now the - Slayer's handles are oiled... 1st coat of Tung will now dry in the window and sunlight to bring out even more of that Cherry Red coloring..

and while that coat cures, it's back to Brian's big one for some more buffing..

Black Cherry for the Muj-Slayer

Resumed work on the Black Cherry handles for this biggun this morning..

with the near-final shaping done, I begin on the bevels  ...

and then some initial fine-sanding ..

and, that "wet" look you see to the left bevel ?

There's not a drop of anything applied to these yet.. that's the result of 1 pass under the buffing pad..

About to apply the 1st coats of Tung Oil.. if that coat cures by this evening, or tommorow, I'll run them back under the buffing pad, yet again.. Should be pretty..
